Saint-Gobain Glass UK & Ireland has taken a significant step forward in lower-carbon flat glass production. At its Eggborough plant, PLANICLEAR® now achieves 7.22 kgCO₂e/m² for 4 mm glass.
Standard production, not a limited campaign
The new EPD reflects Saint-Gobain Glass UK & Ireland’s regular day-to-day production. It is not based on a trial or short-term campaign. PLANICLEAR® is manufactured and delivered this way as standard, every day.
The new declaration shows a reduction of more than 34% compared with the previous EPD. This strengthens PLANICLEAR® as a practical choice for lowering embodied carbon, while maintaining the same quality, availability, and performance.
Driven by a clear decarbonisation roadmap
This progress is driven by Saint-Gobain Glass UK’s decarbonisation roadmap and its Glass Forever approach. Together, they focus on three key areas: increasing circularity, reducing reliance on virgin raw materials, and improving renewable energy use and process efficiency.
Producing around 13 miles of flat glass daily, Eggborough is embedding lower-carbon manufacturing at scale. By reducing the footprint of its core product, Saint-Gobain Glass is making lower‑carbon specification simpler for the construction and retrofit markets.
The EPD is third-party verified and positions PLANICLEAR® among the lowest embodied carbon standard float glass product manufactured in the UK. It provides robust data for planning, ESG reporting, and procurement decisions, helping customers move with confidence and avoid the risk of greenwashing.
Critically, this applies to standard PLANICLEAR®, supporting lower embodied carbon at sealed unit level with no added cost and no change to product performance.
New EPDs available now and more to follow
New EPDs are now available for all PLANICLEAR® thicknesses and Sapphire Blue. UK coated and laminated products will also benefit from this lower embodied carbon substrate, with supporting EPDs expected to be validated in the second half of 2026.
EPDs are available at www.saint-gobain-glass.co.uk or at envirodec.co.uk
