About Saint-Gobain Glass UK & Ireland

Established in 2000, the Saint-Gobain Glass UK & Ireland site, based in Eggborough, has led the development and implementation of the circular economy for flat glass recovery, recycling and production. Glass Forever, our flat glass recycling programme has helped set industry standards for sustainability, quality, and innovation in glass production.

In 2021, we made a significant upgrade to the flat glass furnace by completing a cold repair, that redeveloped the furnace to be larger and more efficient. This upgrade has improved our production capabilities and reaffirmed our commitment to lower-carbon flat glass manufacturing.

Celebrating Over 25 Years of Sustainability and Innovation

2025 marked the 25th anniversary of Saint-Gobain Glass UK & Ireland. Since its inception, Saint-Gobain Glass has built a reputation for pushing boundaries in glass manufacturing. From achieving a float yield world record in 2010 to winning numerous industry awards, including G Awards Glass Company of the Year 2015 & 2022, British Glass Company of the Year 2017 & 2019, and Glass Focus Award for Sustainable Practise 2025.

Our journey wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our customers, many of whom have been with us from the very beginning. These partnerships, built on trust, innovation, and collaboration, have played a pivotal role in shaping the company we are today.

Behind our success is a dedicated workforce, with 28 employees having been with the plant since its early days. Over the years, the site has fostered a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration. The well-being and continued development of our people is at the core of our company culture, and will help us to continue to thrive in the years to come.

Advanced Technology for Lower-Carbon Glass Production

Our Eggborough site is at the forefront of technological advancement within the Saint-Gobain Group. By integrating Industry 4.0 technology and processes, the plant stands out as one of the most technologically advanced in our network. Our state-of-the-art facilities include a 560-metre-long production line that produces a continuous glass ribbon 3.2 metres wide, supporting our float glass production.

At our Eggborough site, we produce PLANICLEAR® lower-carbon glass as standard, in thicknesses ranging from 2mm to 12mm (see PLANICLEAR® webpage for more information, references and links to EPDs).

Our production capacity reaches up to 250,000 tonnes of glass annually, that’s over 10 miles of glass produced each day. Our automated production line operates 24/7, 365 days a year, helping to ensure consistent quality and efficiency.
