Saint-Gobain Glass is a finalist in three categories of the Glass Focus Awards 2024.
The innovative glass manufacturer is shortlisted in the Design of the Year – Flat glass, Innovative Solution, and Sustainable Practice categories at the annual awards.
For the Design of the Year – Flat Glass category (supported by The Glass and Glazing Federation), Saint-Gobain glass used in the Eden – New Bailey development in Manchester received a place on the shortlist. The project is a pioneering 12-storey, 115,000 sq ft office development, where sustainability and net zero carbon principles were prioritised, meeting the rigorous standards set by the UK Green Building Council for operational carbon neutrality. Saint-Gobain Glass’ COOL-LITE® XTREME solar control product range was used and features a high light transmission value, maximising daylight while boasting a low solar factor, which reduces the potential reliance on air conditioning, promoting energy savings and thermal efficiency.
In the Innovative Solution and the Sustainable Practice categories, Saint-Gobain Glass is recognised for its investment in a dedicated cullet processing facility, and its Glass Forever glass recovery and recycling programme respectively.
The company invested £4.5 million to enhance its cullet processing capabilities by building a state-of-the-art recycling plant at its Eggborough factory. Completed in 2023, the facility supports its commended Glass Forever Programme by transforming waste glass into high-quality, reusable cullet, ready for remanufacturing into new, high-performance glazing. The initiative has helped increase cullet ratio at the company’s North Yorkshire hub to above 40%, with over 300kg of CO2 being saved for every tonne of cullet used at the factory.
The Glass Forever initiative equips Saint-Gobain Glass’ customers in both pre-consumer and post-consumer glass markets with the resources and knowledge needed to make glass recovery easy, affordable, and attractive, committing to circular economy principles and to sustainable business practices.
Earlier this month the company was shortlisted for a trio of sustainability-focused awards at the G24 Awards, and will attend the award ceremony in London on 29th November.
Mike Butterick, Marketing Director at Saint-Gobain Glass said: “We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted for three awards in both the Glass Focus and G24 Awards. We are especially proud that our sustainability efforts have been acknowledged. This reinforces our commitment to making real environmental change in the fenestration and wider building industry.”
This year’s Glass Focus Awards ceremony will be held on 21 November 2024 at Aspire in Leeds city centre.
